Bringing Clean, Sustainable Drinking Water to Ukraine

Since February 2022, Greater Good Charities has been in Ukraine, providing support in many ways as the conflict with Russia continues. In early June, when Kakhovka Dam, a major hydropower facility on the Dnieper River in Ukraine, collapsed, it resulted in significant flooding across villages in the region. Critically, the dam collapse also led to a disruption of the water supply system, contamination of existing water sources, and deepened the crisis in the Kherson and Mykolaiv regions.

In the aftermath of the dam collapse, affected communities required immediate humanitarian aid, including access to clean drinking water and the prevention of waterborne diseases.  

Our partners in Ukraine were in the area within 24 hours helping with supplies for both people and pets. Once our full team could assess the situation on the ground, it was clear one of the most critical needs was clean drinking water.

Within several days, Greater Good Charities partnered with BEAR (British Expeditionary Aid and Rescue) on a timely solution. Thirty-two (32) 1000-liter tanks of fresh water have been installed across affected communities with plans to double that number in the coming weeks. Arrangements are being made for providing ongoing access to clean water.
