September 19, 2024
Back to Stories

The bumblebee is an integral part of our food system. Two-thirds of the world’s crops are pollinated by animals, with bees being the most prevalent and important pollinator. The rusty patched bumblebee is endemic to North America. In the midwest and northeast America, the rusty patched bumblebee population has declined by a staggering 90%! It was recently announced that the rusty patched bumblebee would be declared endangered, making it the first endangered bee in the continental U.S.

The rusty patched bumblebee is in danger of becoming extinct!

However, the new administration is delaying placing the rusty patched bumblebee on the endangered species list. This means the rusty patched bumblebee will not receive the extra federal protections it desperately needs.

Action must be taken to save the rusty patched bumblebee and all other species of bumblebees. This means addressing the major threats to bumblebees, including habitat loss and pesticide use.
